The primary goal of BPS is to promote activities for advancing research, innovations and education in polymer science and technologies in Bulgaria.

The main objectives of BPS are the following:

  • To organize scientific meetings – symposia, conferences, schools, discussions, etc., which provide an opportunity for creative contacts, exchange of information and opinions, improvement of qualifications, etc. in the field of polymers and polymeric materials.
  • To participate in the formation of the national educational, technological and scientific policies in polymers through expert opinions, consultations, reports, etc., addressed to the competent state bodies.
  • To promote contacts between its members, thereby facilitating the solution of the existing scientific and technological problems facing them.
  • To carry out extensive international activity through membership in the European Polymer Federation, other international polymer organizations, as well as through bilateral relations with similar organizations in the country.
  • To prepare, publish and update in Bulgarian the nomenclature in the field of polymers and polymer materials.

BPS was established at a founding meeting of more than 30 leading Bulgarian scientists and specialists in the field of polymer science, held in Sofia on September 21, 1992. Since then, the successive presidents of BPS have been Professor Ivan Shopov (1992 – 2013), Professor Nevenka Manolova (2013-2025), and Professor Petar D. Petrov (2025 – present).
